Untitled Lipsync is an ongoing, iterative performance that connects the drag form of a lip sync to improvisational movement as a practice of freedom and survival. Untitled Lipsync: gana (For Alice) offers a rhizomatic proposition in the form of a dance beneath the sacred tree that occupies the center of the stage. This performance mediates between seemingly discrete themes in an attempt to blur the lines of temporal, geographical, and cultural separation. A nexus that begins with Ganesha, the Hindu deity who is also the spirit of the land on which the site/stage sits and the work of the late American jazz pianist, organist, harpist, singer, composer and swamini Alice Coltrane Turiyasangitananda, whose name translates as the Transcendental Lord’s highest song of Bliss. Untitled Lipsync: gana (For Alice) is the conjuring, or interstitial illumination of the quantum entanglement that Fred Moten calls “the active sounding of our spooky distancing.”
